SNPEC Awards Main Nuclear Island Equipment Orders for Third-Generation Nuclear Power Projects

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The signing ceremony for the procurement contracts of pressure vessels and steam generators for the third generation of nuclear power projects in China was held at Shanghai on September 26, 2008. State Nuclear Power Engineering Company (SNPEC) (Shanghai) signed the equipment procurement contract for Unit 2 of the Haiyang Nuclear Power Station with China First Heavy Industries Corporation (Fularji, Heilongjiang) and Harbin Boiler Works Company Limited (Harbin, Heilongjiang), a subsidiary of Harbin Power Equipment Corporation (HKG:1133) (Harbin), and the procurement contract for the Unit 2 of the Sanmen Nuclear Power Station with Shanghai Electric Nuclear Power Equipment Company Limited, a subsidiary of Shanghai Electric Group Company Limited (Shanghai) (HKG:2727).

Sanmen Nuclear Power Station and Haiyang Nuclear Power Station are the self-reliance support project for the localization of Westinghouse's AP1000 third-generation nuclear power technology in northern and eastern China.

Reactor pressure vessels and steam generators are the two most important pieces of equipment in the nuclear island of the AP1000 project. The reactor pressure vessels and steam generators, as well as other important components inside the reactors, are to be supplied by Westinghouse.

So far, SNPEC has completed the preparation of bidding documents for 18 packages, including a CA20 structural module, steam generator, pressure vessel, safety shell vessel, components inside reactor and gates. Presently, there are seven items under bid evaluation and another nine items to be put up for bidding soon.
