Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Following criticism by President Donald Trump about companies manufacturing abroad and importing products to sell to U.S. consumers, many international corporations promised to increase investments in the U.S. Corporations are now looking to the U.S. for bigger and better opportunities to obtain high-skilled workers, increase their production capabilities, and most importantly, avoid an on-again, off-again proposed border-adjusted tax on imported manufactured products. The household appliance section of Industry Manufacturing industry is expected to make great gains from these promised foreign investments.
Industrial Info is tracking active capital appliance manufacturing projects worth more than $900 million in the states of Tennessee and South Carolina alone.
In Anderson County, South Carolina, Electrolux (Stockholm, Sweden) is working on a $200 million investment at the company's only refrigerator manufacturing plant in the U.S. The company plans to modernize and expand its existing 810,000-square-foot plant on Masters Boulevard near Anderson, South Carolina by constructing an additional 800,000 square feet of production and warehousing space. The company currently has about 1,300 employees in Anderson; and while no new jobs are planned to be created, production is expected to increase significantly. Construction is anticipated to begin the end of this year, with completion expected in 2019.
On a 310-acre site in Montgomery County, Tennessee, LG Electronics Incorporated (Seoul, South Korea) plans to construct a washing machine manufacturing plant. The LG facility will start out with an initial 829,000 square feet, costing an expected $250 million, and producing front- and top-loading washers. Initial production at the site is expected by first-quarter 2019 with about 600 employees. Company and local officials expect at least three subsequent expansions, bringing the total employment at the manufacturing campus to 2,000 and the production to expand beyond washers to other home appliances produced by the company. This new facility will be the first LG washer machine facility in the U.S., and the third capital investment in the U.S.
