Spain's Endesa Begins Construction of Cas Tresorer Power Plant Extension Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--On October 28, Spanish company Endesa (MCE:ELE) (Madrid) started construction of a second 230-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle unit in Cas Tresorer Power Plant, located in Spain's Balearic Islands. Endesa awarded a turnkey contract to the engineering company Duro Felguera S.A. (Oviedo, Spain) with a total investment of $270 million. Full operation of the unit is expected to start in May 2010.

The two additional 75-MW 6FA combustion turbine generators for the Cas Tresorer extension project will be manufactured by General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut). At the beginning, the new gas turbines will run on fuel oil; once construction of the gas pipeline is completed, it will start operating on natural gas. The first combustion turbine is scheduled to become operational in June 2009, the second unit in October 2009 and the steam turbine in May 2010. The plant will be operated by Gas y Electricidad Generacion S.A. (GESA-Endesa), Endesa's subsidiary in the Balearic Islands.

The 230-MW Cas Tresorer Power Plant started operation in June of 2006 and is equipped with a General Electric S206FA combined-cycle model and two heat recovery steam generators supplied by Nem (Leiden, Netherlands). The power station is located in Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Island.
