Adding additional equipment and upgrading existing NOx reduction systems to its two coal plants shows that officials at City Utilities of Springfield (Springfield, Missouri) are committed to doing whatever is necessary to make the James River and Southwest Power stations compliant with new regulations.
At the Southwest plant, plans are currently underway to retrofit Unit #1s RS coal/gas opposed/turbo-fired dry bottom boiler (1.35MM lbs/hr, 2529psi@ 1,000F) with a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) unit to meet regulations. With construction scheduled to begin during the fourth quarter of 2007. E+P+C (engineering, procurement and construction) bids are expected in late February, with selection made soon after the deadline. Officials have stated that they are currently discussing the installation of additional environmental equipment in the future.
