Sysco Commissions Distribution Center Expansion in Manitoba

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Sysco Food Services of Winnipeg (Winnipeg, Manitoba), a division of Sysco Corporation (NYSE:SYY) (Houston, Texas), a leading distributor of food-service products, has begun to commission an expansion at its food distribution center in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The expansion, which includes additional warehouse space and new offices, will enable the company to consolidate its operations under one roof.

Construction got under way early last fall at the existing 131,000-square-foot facility. A 100,000-square-foot building will be added, which will include 23,000 square feet of office space and 77,000 square feet of warehouse with cooler and freezer storage areas, plus cold docks. Keller Construction Limited (Edmonton, Alberta) was retained by Sysco as the general contractor for the project, which is valued at approximately $20 million.

Sysco Corporation is the largest food-service distributor in North America. It distributes food products, plus equipment and supplies, for the food-service and hospitality industries.

Founded in 2002, Sysco Food Services of Winnipeg distributes food and non-food products to more than 2,000 commercial customers in Manitoba and northwestern Ontario, including restaurants, hotels, resorts, golf courses, universities and colleges. It carries more than 7,900 products.
