The project has been in the works for the past seven years, and because of a variety of delays and market uncertainty, the project kept getting pushed back until the timing was right

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). T. Marzetti Company (Columbus, Ohio), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lancaster Colony Corporation (NYSE:LANC)(Columbus, Ohio), is finally beginning to see some construction activity get underway at the site of its new salad dressing processing plant in Horse Cave, Kentucky.
As first reported by Industrialnfo.com back in May of 2003, plans were coming together to construct a new $40 million plant and warehouse for manufacturing and distribution of the company's line of salad dressings and sauces.
Site remediation, filling, and grading are beginning, under the direction of contractor Shambaugh and Son, LP (Fort Wayne, Indiana) in House Cave, located about 75 miles south of Louisville, Kentucky.
Plans are to construct a 220,000 square foot building and install multiple processing and packaging lines, as well as a distribution warehouse. Schambaugh will self-perform many of the trades required to build the plant and once the winter weather begins to clear, construction is expected to take about 20 months to complete.
The plant is also expected to create about 190 area jobs when it becomes fully operational.
In 1896, a young Teresa Marzetti arrived in the United States from Florence, Italy, and started her small Italian restaurant in Columbus, Ohio and was known for her creamy coleslaw and French dressings. By 1955, the dressings had become so renowned that the upstairs kitchen of the restaurant became a full-scale factory.
Today, as part of the Specialty Food Group of Lancaster Colony Corporation, T. Marzetti has three salad dressings plants across the United States that make an expanded family of quality food products.
