Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Tennessee Valley Authority (Chattanooga, Tennessee) is planning to invest millions to install flue gas desulfurization scrubbers at its Colbert Power Station (Tuscumbia, Alabama) and is developing the preliminary design. The scrubbers will significantly reduce the facility's sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions levels over the next five years.
The plan is to install two wet scrubbers to serve the four 200-MW units (1-4) and one scrubber for the 550-MW Unit 5. Construction is planned to start in the spring of 2012 and be completed by 2015.
Advatech LLC (Chattanooga) is providing consulting and engineering services.
The Tennessee Valley Authority is still studying and comparing technologies to reduce nitrogen dioxide (NOx) and SO2 at its 1,968-MW Widows Creek Power Station (Stevenson, Alabama).
Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems have been installed on the two 560-MW units (7-8) in 2002 and 2004.
