Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Texas is set to see more than $3.2 billion in Power project kickoffs and completions from July through September this year. The Lone Star State still generates the most wind power of any state in the U.S., and a substantial number of the projects are windfarms.

Among the projects planned to kick off in the quarter is NextEra Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida) planned grassroot windfarm near Freer, Texas, in the south of the state. The project will include 120 General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Boston, Massachusetts) 2.5-megawatt (MW) wind turbine-generators to produce 300 MW. The project, which has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $605 million, is planned to be completed in the first half of 2019. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Also on the books to kick off in the quarter is Invenergy LLC's (Chicago, Illinois) 275-MW windfarm in Gruver, in the Texas Panhandle. The $550 million windfarm is part of the larger Wind Catcher Windfarm, which will have a planned generating capacity of 2,000 MW and will go into Oklahoma as well. The project will use 110 2.5-MW turbine-generators for a generating capacity of 275 MW. GE Renewable Energy (Schenectady, New York) is the technology provider for the project, which is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

While not as dominant as wind, solar power also features in Texas' project landscape. This summer, White Camp Energy LLC (Katy, Texas) plans to begin construction of its White Camp photovoltaic solar farm on a private ranch about 70 miles east of Lubbock. The 102.4-MW project will use fixed-mounted panels. Watson Professional Group (Midland, Texas) is engineer on the project, which has an estimated TIV of $204.4 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report. The project is expected to wrap up in the first half of next year, when Phase II construction will begin. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report on Phase II.

Renewable energy projects are not the only fuel type joining the ranks of Texas project kickoffs next quarter. Near El Campo, Texas, Halyard Energy Ventures LLC (Chicago, Illinois) will begin construction of the Halyard Wharton Clean Energy Center, a natural gas-fired peaking facility that will generate 348 MW. The simple-cycle peaking plant will use two General Electric combustion turbine-generators. Lauren Engineers & Constructors Incorporated (Abilene, Texas) is providing engineering, procurement and construction on the project, which has an estimated TIV of $350 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Among the projects planned to wrap up in the upcoming quarter is a 10-MW solar farm in Sherman, Texas. Cypress Creek Renewables (Santa Monica, California) began construction on the project last November, with Horne Brothers Construction Incorporated (Roseboro, North Carolina) acting as general contractor. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Also set to be completed this summer is Brazos Electric Power Cooperative's (Waco, Texas) transmission line and substation near Aubrey, Texas. Construction on the 138-kilovolt, single-pole, double-circuit transmission line began earlier this year to help keep up with future power demand in the area. The transmission line and substation projects have a combined TIV of $52 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the transmission line and substation.
