Tunisia has approved plans to tender more than 2.3 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity in 2026, marking a significant step in accelerating its clean energy transition and reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels.
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Tunisia has approved plans to tender more than 2.3 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity in 2026, marking a significant step in accelerating its clean energy transition and reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels. The program was cleared by the High Committee for Private Electricity Generation under the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy (MIME), which oversees national power sector development.
The approved pipeline includes 2 GW of wind projects across several regions, notably Tabaga (600 MW), Jebel Abderrahmane in Nabeul (400 MW), and El Guettar in Gafsa (200 MW). Additional wind capacity in Zaghouan, Medenine and Kasserine will be tendered once wind resource assessments are completed. In addition, the government has approved a 350-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic project with battery storage in Bazma, Kebili, aimed at enhancing grid stability and supporting the country's goal of achieving 35% renewable electricity generation by 2030.
