U.K.-Belgium Gas Pipeline Shuts Down For Maintenance

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Interconnector (UK) Limited (London, England) will shut down the company's U.K.-Belgium gas pipeline for 15 days for planned annual maintenance. The shutdown will begin 6:00 a.m. on September 8 and will end September 23.

Interconnector (UK) Limited operates an undersea gas pipeline and terminal facilities to provide a strategic bi-directional link between the U.K. and continental European energy markets. The interconnector system includes compression terminals in Bacton, in Norfolk, England, and Zeebrugge, Belgium. The terminals are connected by a 235-kilometer pipeline completed in 1998. The U.K. export capacity of the interconnector is 20 billion cubic meters per year. Since October 2007, following an expansion phase, the U.K. import capacity is 25.5 billion cubic meters per year.

Although igas lines in Europe are essential to secure the gas supply, in Eastern European countries, this benefit is far from being a reality.
