Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Following the successful commissioning of the 660-megawatt (MW) Unit 5 on February 17, 2011, Unit 6, the second 660-MW unit at Guodian Baoji Power Generation Company Limited's (GBPGC) (Baoji, Shaanxi) Baoji No. 2 Power Plant expansion project, passed the 168-hour, continuous full-load trial operation on December 31, 2011. During the trial operation, various technical indicators were rated at the "excellent" level. The Guodian Baoji No. 2 Power Plant Phase II Expansion Project was completed, China Guodian Corporation (Beijing) announced on January 5, 2012.
The Guodian Baoji No.2 Power Plant is in Changqing Town, which is about 28 kilometers from downtown Baoji. The power plant was built in October 1996, with four 300-MW units commissioned in December 1998, November 1999, September 2000 and March 2001, respectively. The expansion project was built on the reserved space of Phase I, with joint investment from China Guodian Corporation (Beijing) (65%) and Shaanxi Investment Group Company Limited (Xi'an, Shaanxi) (35%). The expansion project is furnished with two 660-MW, Chinese-made, supercritical, air-cooling, coal-fired units, with the adoption of a cooling tower, desulfuration tower, and a chimney "three-in-one" scheme, the first of its kind in China. The Northwest Electric Power Design Institute (Xian, Shaanxi), a regional subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consulting Corporation (Beijing), is responsible for the design and engineering of the project. Northwest Electric Power Construction Group Company Limited (Xi'an, Shaanxi) is responsible for the construction and installation of the project.
Construction of the project began in 2009. However, final approval of the project was not received from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) until August 24, 2010. With the commissioning of the expansion project, the total installed capacity of Guodian Baoji No.2 Power Plant has been increased to 2,530 MW. The plant will play a more important role in the northwest grid and will serve as a good example in the sector due to its unique features.
