University Awards Contracts for $72 Million Combined Heat and Power Upgrade in Texas

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Texas A&M University (College Station, Texas) has selected the Fort Worth branch of Jacobs Engineering Group Incorporated (NYSE:JEC) (Pasadena, California) to provide design services and Harvey-Cleary Engineers & Builders (Austin, Texas) to provide construction management-at-risk services, for a $72 million combined heat and power upgrade at the university campus in College Station, Texas.

Plans involve replacing one 5-megawatt (MW) General Electric turbine generator with one 8-MW unit, and installing one 32-MW General Electric gas turbine generator that will replace one existing 17-MW GE gas turbine generator. Auxiliary equipment, such as heat-recovery boilers, and refurbishing an existing boiler also will be installed as well to increase the power supply on campus. Construction is anticipated to begin in late spring of 2010, with overall completion slated for late summer of 2011.

Texas A&M University, founded in 1876, was considered to be Texas' first public institution of higher learning. The university currently includes approximately 38,000 undergraduate students and more than 9,000 graduate students. The university is currently ranked as the nation's sixth-largest by enrollment. The research-and-development department is valued at more than $582 million annually.
