Summary

Brewery projects are big business in the U.S., where Industrial Info Resources is tracking more than $760 million in current and planned brewery capital and maintenance spending.

All Shapes & Sizes

Industrial Info Resources data includes capital and maintenance project information on breweries of all shapes and sizes, from giant facilities such as Molson Coors gargantuan facility in Golden, Colorado, which is able to produce more than 20 million barrels per year, to smaller craft breweries whose reach is more localized. Breweries on both ends of the spectrum and all sizes in between add up to quite a big business in the U.S., where Industrial Info Resources data find more than $760 million in current and planned brewery projects, including both capital construction and $40 million of planned maintenance events.

In-Plant Capital Projects

Most of the projects planned or underway at U.S. breweries involve expansions or modernizations of existing plants. One of the largest of these projects comes from Wisconsin-focused brewer New Glarus Brewing Company, which has a few months remaining on an expansion project that it launched in 2025 adding another 65,000 feet of space to its brewery in New Glarus, Wisconsin.

Other upgrades are underway at a somewhat larger brewery in Rochester, New York, where Genesee Brewing Company later this year is expected to wrap up a modernization of its facility, including new tanks and machinery, updated warehousing facilities, and new packaging equipment. The two-year project will increase production and distribution efficiencies for the company's range of beers, which include a nonalcoholic offering in addition to several year-round products and a range of specialty and seasonal brews.

The Big Players

While smaller and medium players are responsible for some of the larger projects, the big players, churning out millions of barrels of beer a year for international markets, are not to be discounted. Industrial Info Resources is tracking no less than eight active U.S. projects from the world's largest beer company, Anheuser-Busch InBev, more commonly known as AB InBev.

At the moment, AB InBev is at work on approximately $30 million worth of equipment upgrades at its brewery in Jacksonville, Florida, but even more projects are on the way. The company is planning multiple other upgrade projects this year, including at its locations in:

Industry giant Molson Coors shows somewhat less activity, although the brewer plans to make significant additions to its Shenandoah Brewery in Elkton, Virginia.

Other Future Construction

Industrial Info Resources is tracking more than $330 million worth of future construction planned to kick off at U.S. breweries. Most future projects involve smaller and mid-size breweries, such as Manhattan Project Beer Company's 45,000 square feet of grassroot brewery and warehousing facilities in Mesquite, Texas, which is expected to break ground this summer.

Even smaller projects feature in Industrial Info Resources' U.S. Food & Beverage Industry coverage, including three smaller grassroot breweries in Texas, each valued at about $2.5 million, including another brewery from Manhattan Project, and the expansion of Austin Craft Brewing Company to locations in Dallas and Houston.

Key Takeaways
  • Industrial Info Resources is tracking more than $760 million in current and planned capital and maintenance spending at U.S. breweries.
  • Most of the projects involve expansions or modernizations of existing plants.
  • AB InBev is underway with an upgrade project in Florida and plans to this year kick off upgrades at other breweries in California, New York, Ohio and Georgia.
