Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Summer is just a little more than a month away, and the U.S. Oil & Gas Industry is preparing for a swath of maintenance work at facilities in every major industrial sector, particularly gas-processing plants. Industrial Info is tracking more than 175 maintenance-related projects in the domestic Oil & Gas Industry that are set to begin from now through the end of summer, almost half of which are found in the states of Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.

AttachmentClick on the image at right for a graph detailing U.S. oil and gas maintenance projects that are set to begin construction from now through late September, by industry sector.

Gas-processing facilities account for nearly half of the total investment value for oil and gas maintenance projects in the U.S. this summer, with Oklahoma hosting a pair of projects from two of the largest companies in the industry: Kinder Morgan Incorporated's (NYSE:KMI) (Houston, Texas) Train 2 turnaround at a plant in Paden, and DCP Midstream LP's (NYSE:DCP) (Denver, Colorado) turnaround at a plant near Mooreland. Paden's Train 2 produces 6,000 barrels per day (BBL/d) of natural gas liquid (NGL), while the Mooreland plant produces 20,000 BBL/d. For more information, see Industrial Info's reports on the Paden and Mooreland projects.

Other leading energy companies are hosting maintenance-related projects at gas-processing facilities across the U.S. West. Williams Companies Incorporated (NYSE:WMB) (Tulsa, Oklahoma) is preparing for a solar turbine overhaul at an NGL plant in Markham, Texas, while Enterprise Products Partners (NYSE:EPD) (Houston, Texas) is preparing for major inspections and repairs to two trains at an NGL-recovery plant in Meeker, Colorado, each of which process 1.8 billion cubic feet per day of gas. Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) (Irving, Texas) is preparing for maintenance at a four-train gas-treatment plant near Kemmerer, Wyoming; all three projects are set to wrap up in mid-August. For more information, see Industrial Info's reports on the Texas, Colorado and Wyoming projects.

Crude oil pipelines are expected to see maintenance in some of the fastest-growing regions for domestic production. In Texas' Permian Basin, Magellan Midstream Partners LP (NYSE:MMP) (Tulsa, Oklahoma) is preparing for a pair of "pigging" projects, in which devices known as "pigs" are sent through a pipeline system for cleaning, coating and inspection. On Magellan's Longhorn Crude Oil Pipeline, which traverses the state from El Paso to Houston, the company expects to perform pigging on a 140-mile stretch from Crane to Cottonwood, and a 100-mile stretch from Cottonwood to El Paso, as well as any repairs that are deemed necessary. For more information, see Industrial Info's reports on the projects originating in Crane and Cottonwood.

Not surprisingly, offshore production projects account for some of the highest investment values for oil-related maintenance, given the wide-ranging and intricate work involved in properly maintaining offshore rigs. In the Gulf of Mexico, BP plc (NYSE:BP) (London, England) is readying for a turnaround and shut-in at its Na Kika Offshore Platform, which has a capacity of 130,000 barrels of oil and 550 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas, and Talos Energy Incorporated (NYSE:TALO) (Houston, Texas) is set for a shut-in at its Pompano Offshore Platform, which has a capacity of 60,000 barrels of oil and 200 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas. For more information, see Industrial Info's reports on the Na Kika and Pompano projects.
