Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--With its vast wealth of wind and solar resources, the U.S. Southwest market region easily takes first place in the value of renewable energy projects that are planned to commence construction in first-quarter 2021. The region, which includes Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana, is home to more than $7.2 billion worth of renewable energy projects that are planned to kick off construction in the upcoming quarter.

Not all the projects will move forward as planned. In just the Southwest market region, 16 projects worth nearly $5 billion are assessed as having a high (81% to 99%) or medium (70% to 80%) probability of kicking off according to schedule.
The high- and medium-probability projects include more than $2.5 billion worth of wind projects, such as NextEra Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida) 500-megawatt (MW) White Mesa Windfarm near Ozona in West Texas. NextEra expects to develop at least 15,000 MW of renewable power from 2019 through 2022. The White Mesa Windfarm will have 200 wind turbine generators and is planned for completion by the end of 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report and October 22, 2020, article - With Strong Earnings, NextEra Energy Further Increases Renewables Backlog.
The project's schedule has not been affected by COVID-19, but Industrial Info's project database indicates that more than $10 billion worth of U.S. wind and solar project activity has been impacted by the pandemic. For more information, see October 27, 2020, article - More than $10 Billion in U.S. Wind, Solar Projects Struggle with COVID-19 Delays.
Other planned windfarm kickoffs in the Southwest market region include:
Industrial Info also is tracking $2.45 billion in high-and-medium-probability solar photovoltaic (PV) generation projects in the Southwest that are planned to begin construction next quarter. Among them are:
