Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) (San Antonio, Texas) and subsidiary Diamond Green Diesel LLC (San Antonio, Texas), with joint venture partner Darling International Incorporated (NYSE:DAR) (Irving, Texas), have begun selecting equipment vendors and engineering and construction contractors for Diamond Green's renewable diesel fuel project, near Valero's existing petroleum refinery in Norco, Louisiana.
The venture received a $241 million loan guarantee from the Department of Energy in January 2011, and the project is progressing to the construction phase.
The engineering firm, Richard Design Services Incorporated (Beaumont, Texas), is working with contractor Turner Industries (Baton Rouge, Louisiana), performing soil analysis, and preparing the site for construction.
Honeywell International Incorporated (NYSE:HON) (Morristown, New Jersey) will provide the UOP/ENI process technology that will be used to convert recycled fats and oils into renewable diesel, along with the Desmet Ballestra (Belgium, Germany) pre-treatment system. Compressors and rotary equipment will be provided by Dresser-Rand Group (Houston, Texas).
The plant will process recycled animal fats from Darling's rendering operations, and will use recycled cooling oil feedstocks to produce about 137 million gallons annually of clean renewable diesel fuel.
Construction of the plant is expected to be in full swing within the next 30 to 60 days, and to be on-line by the fourth quarter of 2012.
