Vermont Yogurt Facility Approaches Startup Date

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Commonwealth Dairy LLC (Brattleboro, Vermont), which broke ground last spring, is on-course to begin commissioning its new yogurt manufacturing facility in Brattleboro late this winter, with products available in stores in the spring. Mechanical installation, including process piping, equipment and machinery, is now in progress.

Located on 5.9-acre site on the Omega Optical's Delta Campus, Commonwealth is constructing a 39,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art, LEED-compliant, Class II dairy manufacturing facility, using the latest technology and automated production processes, which have an output capacity of 50 million pounds of milk annually, utilizing about 32.5 million pounds of skim milk and 400,000 pounds of butterfat annually.

When operational, the $32 million plant is expected to generate approximately 30 jobs. The facility will obtain the majority of its milk supply locally to make yogurt for retailers under private labels, and to sell its own all-natural "Mountainberry" brand product.

Commonwealth Dairy is a joint venture between Ehrmann USA, a subsidiary of family-run Ehrmann AG, an international yogurt company based in Germany, and Commonwealth Yogurt.
