Written by Richard Finlayson, Senior International Editor for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Vietnam's Atomic Energy Institute is planning a nuclear technology center. The center will be sited at Da Lat, and funding for the $500 million project will be supported by Russian loans.
Russia will assist in the training of Vietnam's nuclear industry workers at the center so that they will be available for projects as the country's nuclear fleet progresses. Vietnam has long-term plans for up to 6,700 megawatts (MW) of nuclear generation to be installed by 2030.
Russia's state-owned Rosatom (Moscow) will build the country's first nuclear power plant, which is scheduled to begin construction in late 2014. This 2,000-MW project will be followed by another of the same power-generating capacity that will use Japanese technology.
