Wood Fuel Pellet Plant Planned for Southwestern Maine

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--F.E. Wood & Sons (West Baldwin, Maine) hopes to break ground this summer on a planned $80 million wood fuel pellet plant in Baldwin, Maine.

The company's proposed venture will use waste wood from the forest industry to produce 350,000 tons of fuel pellets annually. Once operational, this plant will effectively double Maine's annual output of pellets.

About 70% of F.E. Wood's product will be for export and sent by train and truck to the Port of Portland, then shipped to Europe for commercial and residential power markets. The remainder of the pellets will be for the local and state markets.

The plant will be located adjacent to a state-owned railroad track along Highway 113 near Baldwin, which is approximately 30 miles northwest of Portland, Maine. The facility will have nearly 20 employees.

Currently, there are three operational pellet plants in Maine producing a total of 340,000 tons annually.
