Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--WSP Global Incorporated (Montreal, Quebec), a global provider of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services, continues to grow its backlog with work in some of the most in-demand areas of the energy and transportation fields, for both corporate and government customers. Industrial Info is tracking more than $16 billion in active North American projects involving WSP, with the bulk of the investment value attributed to the Oil & Gas Production and Industrial Manufacturing industries.

Most of WSP's oil-related projects in North America are in Canada, including two projects under construction at Husky Energy Incorporated's (TSX:HSE) (Calgary, Alberta) bitumen production plant in Spruce Lake, Saskatchewan: the $400 million North plant and $400 million Central plant, each of which is expected to produce 10,000 barrels per day (BBL/d) via steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) technology. Farther south at Husky's Edam Central bitumen production plant in Vawn, a unit of identical capacity is under construction, also with WSP performing EPC services. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on Spruce Lake North, Spruce Lake Central and Edam Central.
Among the U.S.-based energy projects involving WSP is W Power LLC's (Sacramento, California) $91.35 million Energy Reliability Center in Stanton, California, which will provide 96 megawatts (MW) of hybrid energy storage capacity via a pair of Enhanced Gas Turbines from General Electric (NYSE:GE). It is being built in a partnership with Wellhead Energy LLC (Sacramento, California) and is set to wrap up next spring. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Data centers are springing up across the U.S. as tech companies expand, and WSP is performing civil-engineering services for Google Incorporated's (NYSE:GOOG) (Menlo Park, California) $600 million, two-phase data center in Henderson, Nevada. Each phase includes a building of roughly 280,000 square feet. According to Google, the facility will power a new Google Cloud region, which will serve users of Google's Cloud Platform in the Rocky Mountain and West Coast regions. For more information on the project, which is set to wrap up in late 2020 and early 2021, see Industrial Info's project reports on Phase I and Phase II.
But the overwhelming majority of investment value for U.S.-based projects involving WSP is attached to transportation systems, both public and private. South Carolina Ports Authority (Charleston, South Carolina) has signed WSP to provide construction management services for its $762 million Wando Welch Terminal in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, which will add a 5,000-foot containment structure to contain 1.75 million cubic yards of dredged material that will be shipped to the facility via rail. The terminal is undergoing a years-long, multi-phase overhaul and modernization to handle traffic from larger ships; last week, three 155-foot-tall ship-to-shore cranes arrived at the facility from China.
Denver International Airport (Denver, Colorado) also has signed WSP as a construction manager for the estimated $656 million expansion of Concourse A West Gate and $521 million expansions of Concourse C East Gate, which involve adding 28 new gates and 30 new holding rooms. The South Carolina project is expected to wrap up in first-quarter 2020, and the two Denver Airport expansions toward the end of 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's reports on the South Carolina terminal and Denver Concourse A and Concourse C.
