Wyoming Power Plant Forced Offline

Researched by Industrial Information Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Wyodak Power Station, which is owned by PacifiCorp (Portland, Oregon) (80%) and Black Hills Power Incorporated (Rapid City, South Dakota) (20%) shut down on Friday, February 26. Officials have stated that the cause of the trip was corrosion around the scrubber area, which caused one of the scrubber chambers to collapse. Several contractors are at the site, and engineers are estimating that repairing the unit could take up to a month.

Wyodak power station is a 362-megawatt power station in Gillette, Wyoming. Wyodak began commercial operation in September 1978 with one General Electric (NYSE:GE) steam turbine and a Babcock & Wilcox dry bottom boiler. This plant generates enough electricity to provided power to 170,000 customers in five different states.
