Xcel Energy to End Coal Use in Upper Midwest by 2030 - Xcel Energy (NASDAQ:XEL) announced plans to retire its last two coal plants in the Upper Midwest a decade earlier than scheduled. Under Xcel's proposal, Sherco 3, the region's final coal plant, would close in 2030, following the closure of the Allen S. King coal plant in Oak Park Heights, Minnesota, in 2028. NRG to Buy Another Power Retailer - NRG Energy (NYSE:NRG) (Houston, Texas) is buying the retail power and natural gas business of Dallas-based Stream Energy in a $300 million all-cash deal. Stream has 600,000 residential customers. (Fuel Fix)

Carlyle Group Seeks Two-Year Approval on Crude Export Project - A unit of asset management firm Carlyle Group LP (NASDAQ:CG) this week will appeal to the Trump administration to guarantee a two-year approval of its south Texas crude export project, officials said. Carlyle-backed Lone Star Ports LLC plans to file paperwork with the administration's Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council to join a list of infrastructure projects that U.S. officials hope to ease through federal, state and local reviews. Carlyle has not made a final investment decision on the project, which will be located at the Port of Corpus Christi. (Project 300495751)
