Market Coverage Criteria

The Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry includes coverage of both manufacturing facilities and research laboratories. In addition to commercial operations, the public sector is included as well, due to the enormous volume of capital spending in this sector. In order to provide the most comprehensive coverage and due to the emergent nature of the industry as a whole, guidelines regarding employee counts and annual sales for plant and project coverage are somewhat more flexible than other industries. Minimum project spending limits of $1 million still apply to all projects reported, with most averaging $25 million or more in total investment value. With over 2,200 operational plants and nearly 200 more in various stages of planning and construction being monitored, our North American Pharmaceutical-Biotech database continues to grow on nearly a daily basis.

  • Medicinals & Botanicals - Most plant-derived drug preparations, as well as those that can be synthetically duplicated. Vitamins plus the growing sector of “alternative” and herbal remedies are also found in SIC 2833.
  • Pharmaceutical Preparations - Prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs for human or animal use. Traditional drug therapies such as antibiotics, analgesics (any medicine intended to stop pain) and cold remedies.
  • Diagnostic Substances - Materials used in the diagnosis, prognosis, prediction and prevention of disease. In vitro (an experiment performed in an artificial environment like a test tube or culture media), and in vivo (tests which are performed in a living body or organism, as well as a process or reaction in the same) diagnostics and reagents.
  • Biological Products, Ex. Diagnostic - An umbrella term for therapies that are formulated from organisms or their cellular components. The relatively new genetically based therapies, vaccines and hematology.

Project Coverage
Pharmaceutical & Biotech Industry coverage consists of over 780 future, active projects for the North American valued at $47 billion. In this market, IIR confirms over $14 billion in activity per year that actually takes place. While the industry is shifting direction, the turndown in the economy is having little impact on overall spending. Coverage includes capital projects for grassroot construction, production, packaging and line expansions, and additions, major research and development facilities and process upgrades, CRO and CMO plants.

Living Forward Market Intelligence – IIR’s team of industry experts are constantly updating and reporting on new opportunities in the database that keeps your subscription timely, accurate and living forward. Our quality control process insures that the intelligence you receive today will become more valuable tomorrow.

Plant Coverage
The Pharmaceutical & Biotech Industry plant database consists of over 2,300 operational plants with approximately 215 plants in various stages of development. Pre-commissioned plants are a result of new facility construction. These plants are monitored monthly and brought into an operational status once construction is completed. Closed locations are also available and represent approximately 516 plants. Plant details for operational plants include key management contacts which represent over 19,000 unique management contacts. Each plant record is continuously phone verified for quality assurance and accuracy throughout the year.

Each Plant Profile Identifies:
  • Company ownership and parent company
  • Physical and mailing addresses,
  • Phone and fax numbers,
  • SIC descriptions,
  • Start-up Date
  • Union Status
  • Fuel Type
  • Key Management Contacts with Email addresses*

Each plant record includes up to 9 functional management contacts. Most contacts are identified on-site; however, we also provide corporate contacts in management positions if a particular responsibility is handled off-site. Corporate contacts are identified as “Off-Site,” whereas plant management contacts are marked with an “On-Site” status.

Plant Contacts include Functional Management Responsibilities for:
