Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Nova Scotia Power (Halifax, Nova Scotia) began operations at its new South Canoe windfarm. Nova Scotia Power is owned by Emera (Halifax). With a total investment value of $200 million, the project recently wound up and is generating power.

The 102-megawatt windfarm comprises 34 Acciona (Alcobendas, Spain) AW3-3000 wind turbines. It is located in the town of Lunenburg.

The South Canoe project is part of Nova Scotia's renewable energy initiative. It was approved by Nova Scotia's renewable energy administrator in 2012. Nova Scotia's energy plan calls for 25% of its electricity, about 500 MW, to come from renewable sources by the end of this year, and 40% by the end of 2020.
