Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Giant Cement Company Holding Incorporated (Summerville, South Carolina), a subsidiary of Cementos Portland SA (Pamplona, Spain) has signed a Letter of Intent with The Industrial Company (TIC - Steamboat Springs, Colorado) to provide general contracting services for the $100 million cement plant expansion at Giant's Harleyville, South Carolina cement plant.

TIC has been a leader in cement plant construction in the U.S. and in recent years has been the general contractor for several large cement plant expansion projects, including a $150 million expansion of Rinker Materials' Miami cement plant, a $75 million expansion at Lone Star Industries' Greencastle, Indiana plant, and TXI's $250 million expansion of its Midlothian Texas plant. TIC is also involved in numerous power generation and metals & minerals projects in North America. Industrialinfo.com has tracked close to 50 projects involving TIC in recent years, as part of its North American Industrial Database.

TIC is scheduled to mobilize at the site on June 16th and will begin initial site excavation work shortly there after. Significant mechanical completion is expected by fourth quarter of 2004 with start-up and commissioning activities stretching into 2005.

An existing 980,000 ton per year plant will be shutdown and decommissioned after start-up of the new plant.

Watkins Engineers & Constructors (Tallahassee, Florida), a subsidiary of employee owned Dillingham Construction Corporation (Pleasanton, California), and Consultec Limited (Toronto, Ontario) are providing civil, structural, and mechanical engineering for the project.

Cement equipment leader, Polysius Corporation (Atlanta, Georgia), a subsidiary of Polysius AG (Beckum, Germany), was selected in 2002 to provide a full dry process kiln line including 240 ton per hour QUADROPOL raw mill, POLRO rotary kiln (4.4 meter diameter & 60 meters long), and 123 ton per hour finishing mill.
