Success of Planned Unisphere Waste Tire to Carbon Black Plant in New Brunswick Could Lead to the Development of Several Similar Plants in North America

The estimated $125 million project is scheduled to have construction permits and approval finalized by the end of the year

Released Friday, November 21, 2003

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Unisphere Waste Conversions, Limited (UWC) (Toronto, Ontario) (TSX Venture Exchange: UCB) plans to construct a new tire recycling plant in Belledune, New Brunswick (Plant 1060893). The plant will convert an estimated 10,000 tires per day into recyclable carbon black utilizing Unisphere's Tire Derived Products (TDP) System (PEC 61000209).

The estimated $125 million project is scheduled to have construction permits and approval finalized by the end of the year. The engineering and construction contract has been awarded to Metso Minerals, Incorporated (Danville, Pennsylvania). Metso Minerals will also assist in providing technology by combining their patented rotary kiln tire pyrolysis technology and proprietary oil condensing system with Unisphere's TDP System. Construction for the new plant is scheduled to begin July 2004 and be completed early 2005.

UWC has plans to build five plants in North America over the next five years. The company is considering sites in Quebec, Florida and Ontario, which would all process waste tires at the rate of 10,000 per day. Revenues will not only be derived from the disposal of scrap tires but the carbon char that is produced at each plant will be converted into commercial grade recyclable carbon black, condensable oil converted into fuel oil, and non-condensable gas to be sold to industrial clients.

UWC, a Canadian environmental solutions company is headquartered out of Toronto, Ontario. The company's ultimate goal is to process scrap tires through thermochemical decomposition pyrolysis while also producing reusable raw materials economically and in an environmentally friendly manner.
