Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources Incorporated; Houston, Texas). United Carbon Corporation (Woodland Hills, California), a privately held company, is proposing to build a new carbon black plant in Whiteland, Indiana (Plant 1063011). The plant is estimated to cost over $150 million to construct and is currently in the early development stages (PEC 11002361). Discussions with the city have been under way for the possibility of a new plant in this area for over a year and the next step is to obtain permits.
United Carbon also has plans to construct a similar plant in California City, California. SNC-Lavalin (Montreal, Quebec), one of the leading E&C firms in the world, has been providing engineering services for the California City, California plant and will most likely do the same for the Indiana plant once it starts moving forward. The earliest construction could commence would be early 2005, with the plant coming online in 2006. The plant will process up to 6,200 waste tires a day for carbon black production.
United Carbon will be using the most innovative and advanced technology in the construction of their new plants. Thirty percent of their feedstock comes from recycled tires substantially reducing their feedstock costs over traditional carbon black producers. Carbon black is used in many products such as toner cartridges for printers, copy and fax machines, plastics, rubber mats, carpets, paints, ink and many other every day products.
