Air Products and Technip-Coflexip Alliance to Construct Another Hydrogen Plant in Louisiana

The plant will produce an estimated 110 million standard cubic feet of hydrogen per day for delivery to local refineries via pipeline

Released Thursday, August 05, 2004

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Air Products and Chemicals Incorporated (NYSE: APD) (Allentown, Pennsylvania) plans to construct a new hydrogen plant in Convent, Louisiana. Technip-Coflexip (NYSE: TKP) (San Dimas, California), through its alliance with Air Products, using Technip's technology to construct new hydrogen capacity through 2011, will complete all engineering and scheduling for a new $60 million plant. Construction is planned to begin early next year and be complete in November 2005.

The plant will produce an estimated 110 million standard cubic feet of hydrogen per day for delivery via pipeline to Motiva Enterprises, LLC's (Convent, Louisiana) neighboring 225,000 barrel per day petroleum refinery and Marathon Ashland Petroleum, LLC's (Garyville, Louisiana) 255,000 barrel per day refinery. The remaining hydrogen capacity will be available to the Mississippi River corridor pipeline system. The plant will be built at the Motiva refinery site and be used by both refineries in the production of clean transportation fuels that reduce the sulfur content in gasoline and other fuels.

Air Products and Chemicals is the largest supplier of electronic materials, hydrogen, helium, and other select performance chemicals. They just completed construction in May 2004 of a 112 million standard cubic feet per day hydrogen plant in Westlake, Louisiana, in order to provide hydrogen via pipeline to the Lake Charles ConocoPhillips refinery.
