Construction to Begin Soon on New Secondary Aluminum Smelter in Ontario
Matalco will produce 200 million pounds of aluminum billet annually for the North American extrusion market.
Released Monday, October 25, 2004
Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Matalco Incorporated, an affiliate of metal recycler, Triple M Metal (Brampton, Ontario), will begin construction in November 2004, on a grassroot $50 million secondary aluminum smelter. The new plant will be built across the street from Triple M Metal's recycling operations and headquarters, located at 471 Intermodal Drive in Brampton, Ontario.
Matalco will produce 200 million pounds of aluminum billet annually for the North American extrusion market. North American extruders are experiencing tight market conditions recently, as demand for quality billet has increased. Matalco is following in the footsteps of other aluminum remelters, such as Norsk Hydro ASA (NYSE:NHY) (Oslo, Norway), which has significantly expanded its North American remelt capacity in recent years. Matalco hired Versa Construction Limited (Vaughan, Ontario) to perform civil/site work, and building construction, as well as mechanical and electrical services to the production equipment. Versa will release bids for mechanical and electrical services beginning in November. Civil construction is scheduled to begin immediately, and erection of the 110,000 square foot building will begin shortly thereafter.
The turn-key equipment supply was awarded to Mechatherm International Limited (Kingswinford, England).
