If Sun-Soaked Arizonans Vote for More Renewable Energy, Will Nuclear Plant be a Casualty?

SUGAR LAND--September 17, 2018--Written by John Egan for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In a ballot measure this November, Arizonans will be asked if they want to double the percentage of electricity generated from renewable resources. But the state's electric utilities say that adoption of the measure, called Proposition 127, will result in the closure of the Palo Verde Generating Station (PVGS), the nation's largest operating nuclear plant. PVGS, located about 50 miles west of Phoenix, is a three-unit, 3,979-megawatt (MW) plant.

Within this article: Arguments for and against Proposition 127, including views on how it could affect consumers.
