U.S. Plans 12 Potential Offshore Wind Energy Leases

U.S. Plans 12 Potential Offshore Wind Energy Leases

Written by Daniel Graeber for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Continuing momentum from the last few months, the U.S. federal government unveiled a new five-year lease plan that outlines 12 potential areas for offshore wind energy. The U.S. energy sector is behind many of its peers when it comes to offshore wind, though programs under President Joe Biden have shown promise.

So far, the government has approved eight commercial-scale offshore wind projects, which would combine for a peak energy capacity of 10 gigawatts (GW). That's enough to meet the energy demands of nearly 4 million average U.S. households, the government said.

Companies featured: Ørsted A/S, Eversource Energy (NYSE:ES) and Dominion Energy (NYSE:D).
