Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Advanced Power Services (NA) Incorporated (Boston, Massachusetts), a subsidiary of Advanced Power AG (Zug, Switzerland), recently announced the completion of the Carroll County Energy Center near Carrollton, Ohio. The company has other power projects underway in the eastern U.S., including Ohio and New York.

The Carroll County Energy Center is a 700-megawatt (MW), natural gas-fired, combined cycle facility. The plant uses two General Electric (NYSE:GE) (GE) (Boston) gas turbines and a steam turbine to generate power for approximately 750,000 homes. Construction on the plant began in summer 2015 and was completed last month. Bechtel Corporation (San Francisco, California) provided engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) on the project, which had an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $800 million. The facility is operated by EthosEnergy (Houston, Texas), while Advanced Power continues the manage the business. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Advanced Power continues a build-out of natural gas-fired projects in the eastern U.S. Among its largest projects is the Cricket Valley Energy Center in Dover, New York. The facility is being built on a brownfield site that included a magnesium refining facility, Formica production facility and tire recycling plant. Dismantlement and demolition of the brownfield site began early last year and was completed in the summer, allowing the construction of the power plant to begin. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report on the dismantlement/demolition project.

Construction on the Cricket Valley Energy Center began last summer and is expected to be completed in early 2020. Bechtel is performing EPC work on the project, which has a TIV of $1.584 billion. The combined-cycle facility will have a generating capacity of 1,100 MW, which Advanced Power claims will provide enough power for 1 million homes in the Hudson Valley. The plant will use GE equipment. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report. The project also will include a 14.6-mile, 345-kilovolt transmission line and switchyard.

In Ohio, Advanced Power is in the process of developing the South Field Energy Center near Wellsville. The project is currently in the permitting process. The facility will use GE equipment and will generate 1,100 MW of power, which Advanced Power claims will help ease power constraints due to plant retirements in the area. Bechtel is providing EPC work on the project. The $1.1 billion project could kick off construction this summer, with completion set for late 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report. The project also includes a switchyard and transmission line.
