Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking U.S. projects valued at approximately $22.3 billion in which engineering giant AECOM (NYSE:ACM) (Los Angeles, California) has a hand. The projects cover a wide range of sectors, including Power, Industrial Manufacturing and Pipelines. Thanks to some large transportation-based projects, the Industrial Manufacturing Industry leads AECOM's active projects in terms of value.

Among AECOM's projects is the extension of a light rail line in the Saint Paul/Minneapolis region of Minnesota. On the Green Line, 14.5 miles of double track light rail will be built, with 15 stations from downtown Minneapolis through various outlying communities. AECOM is performing design-engineering work on the project, which began in early 2019 and is expected to be completed in early 2023. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report. AECOM is working on light rail projects in other U.S. cities, among them Phoenix, Arizona, and Honolulu, Hawaii.

AECOM also is at work on airport projects. In Boston, Massachusetts, the Phase I modernization of Terminal E at the Boston Logan International Airport is underway. The project began in 2019 and entails constructing 400,000 square feet of terminal space and renovating the existing 800,000-square-foot structure to consolidate passenger security checkpoints and other features. In addition, four new gates will be constructed to accommodate anticipated increases in operational volumes. The project is expected to be completed by 2022. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

AECOM is involved in a different type of air transportation project in Lakeland, Florida, where it is performing design-build services on a grassroot regional air hub for e-commerce giant Amazon.com Incorporated (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington). The project, which is being constructed next to the Lakeland Linder International Airport, entails constructing a 285,000-square-foot air hub complex with a seven-jet air apron to help increase regional distribution capabilities. For a time, lower numbers of people were at the construction site due to COVID-19, pushing out the anticipated completion date from earlier this year into the fourth quarter. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Other projects involving AECOM include the expansion of a submarine manufacturing facility and shipyard in Groton, Connecticut. The project includes the construction of a 200,000-square-foot assembly building and a new floating dry dock to grow General Dynamics Corporation's (NYSE:GD) (Reston, Virginia) submarine construction business and facilitate the construction of the new U.S. Navy Columbia-class submarine, a nuclear submarine designed to replace an existing class of ballistic missile submarines. The project is expected to be completed in 2023. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In the Power Industry, AECOM is acting as a consultant on NextEra Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida) planned Northern Divide Windfarm in Burke County, North Dakota. The project is planned to kick off next year and will involve the construction of 74 General Electric (NYSE:GE) wind turbines with a generating capacity ranging between 2.32 and 2.72 megawatts (MW) each to generate approximately 200 MW. Blattner Energy Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) is providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services on the project, which is expected to kick off early next year and take about a year to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

AECOM also is at work on a crude oil pipeline in Oklahoma for Plains All America Pipeline LP (NYSE:PAA) (Houston, Texas), where it is performing design-engineering on a 50-mile, 160,000-barrel per day pipeline from a storage facility in Cushing to a refinery complex in Tulsa owned by Holly Energy Partners (NYSE:HEP) (Dallas, Texas). Construction kicked off recently, and the project is expected to be completed next summer. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
