Two major Algerian steelmakers, Algerian Qatari Steel (AQS) and El-Hadjar Iron & Steel, halted crude steel production in the last week of March as the COVID-19 pandemic slowed expansion plans for domestic steelmakers in the region.

The factory closures increase the likelihood that multinational companies will continue to face delays, raw material shortages, increased costs and reduced orders due to supply-chain disruptions.
