Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--On September 6, Anhui Electric Power Construction No. 2 Engineering Company (AEPC2) (Hefei, Anhui), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), kicked off Phase III welding for the heating surface of Unit 5, the first unit of China Power International Company Limited's (Hong Kong) 2,000-megawatt (MW) expansion project at the Huainan Pingwei Power Plant. The CEEC said that this marks the beginning of the newest stage of the project.
The Huainan Pingwei Power Plant's Phase III will include a coal-fired boiler, manufactured by Beijing Babcock & Wilcox Company, that will have about 54,800 welding seams in the boiler-heating surface. The first is an assembling welding seam made of HR3C material and located at the lower part of the high-temperature re-heater. The weld is created based on a gas tungsten arc welding process.
Phase III also will include two 1,000-MW, coal-fired units with associated support facilities, with a total investment of about $1.2 billion. East China Electric Power Design Institute (ECEPDI) (Shanghai), a subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consulting Corporation (CPECC) (Beijing), is responsible for the design and engineering of the project.
The project received final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission in February 2013. Construction began shortly thereafter. According to the schedule, the first unit of the project will begin operations by the end of 2014.
The Huainan Pingwei Power Plant, located in Pingwei, in Huainan City, in central China's Anhui province, is owned and operated by Anhui Huainan Pingwei Power Generation Company Limited (Huainan, Anhui), a fully owned subsidiary of China Power International. The power plant currently has four 660-MW, coal-fired units, with a total installed capacity of 2,540-MW.
