Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The examination meeting for the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report of Huaibei Pingwei Power Plant's Unit 1-4 flue gas nitrogen oxide (Nox) control renovation project was held under the organization of the Evaluation Center of Anhui Environmental Protection Department on December 4, 2012. During the examination meeting, the EIA report was presented and reviewed in detail. Upon careful discussion, the expert panel finally concluded that the technical scheme proposed in the EIA report is feasible and practicable.

As reported, the Nox control project for units 1-4 of Pingwei Power Plant is a key project for pollution control and emission reduction in the 12th Five-Year (2011-15) plan for Anhui province. All four units will be adopted with selective catalyst reduction (SCR) denitration devices. The total investment will be about $52.3 million. For the two units in built in Phase II, the renovation will be performed based on the present low nitrogen burner upgrading. For the two units in built in Phase I, the low nitrogen burner renovation and SCR renovation will be performed at the same time. Upon completion, the denitration efficiency will reach 80% and the density of nitrogen oxide emissions will be lower than 100 milligrams per normal cubic meter, which will greatly improve the regional environment.

In September 2011, the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China published the new edition of "Air Pollutant Emission Standard for Thermal Power Plants," in which higher standards for the emission of Nox for power plants was proposed. The new standard also requests that all existing power generation enterprises reach the requirements of the new standard by the end of June 2014.
