Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The internal examination meeting for the preliminary engineering report of Pingwei Power Plant's Phase III, 2,000-megawatt (MW) expansion project was held in Huainan City, in the Anhui province, from July 3 to 4, 2012, according to an announced from the East China Electric Power Design Institute (ECEPDI) (Shanghai) on July 5, 2012.
The Pingwei Power Plant, located in Pingwei Town, in Huainan City, was built in 1985. The power plant currently has four 600-MW, coal-fired units in operation. Of which, the first 600-MW, coal-fired unit was commissioned in November 1989.
The Phase III expansion project is invested by Anhui Huainan Pingwei Power Generation Company Limited (Huainan, Anhui), a fully owned subsidiary of China Power International, and will serve as the main power source for a program to transmit power from Anhui to eastern China.
In September 2011, the project received preliminary approval from the National Energy Administration, which allowed the project owner to kick off pre-stage preparation for the project. In November 2011, the invitation for bids on the supply of turbine, generator and boiler main equipment was issued. The contract for the supply of main equipment was then awarded in March 2012. According to the contract, Beijing Babcock & Wilcox Company Limited (Beijing) will supply two 3,280-ton-per-hour, ultra-supercritical, coal-fired boilers, as well as the selective catalyst reduction (SCR) system for the project.
Presently, the project owner is working with ECEPDI, the project designer, for the final approval of the project. According to the schedule, the project will begin construction later this year, and both units will begin operations in 2014.
Among the leaders and representatives who attended the meeting were Bai Jinchang, the general manager of China Power International Development Limited (Hong Kong), and Chen Zheng, the chief engineer of EDEPDI.
