ArvinMeritor Begins Operation of New Commercial Axle Manufacturing Plant in Mexico

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--ArvinMeritor Incorporated (NYSE:ARM) (Troy, Michigan) has started up a new $30 million commercial axle manufacturing plant in Cienega de Flores, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

Construction began in November 2007 for a 400,000-square-foot facility to be built near Monterrey in northern Mexico. The new plant was completed in nine months and will employ 146 people initially and 500 when fully operational. By the end of the year, the company expects the plant to have a production capacity of 400 front axles per day. The plant will produce bevel gearing and front nondrive steer axles for U.S. and Canadian OEM assembly plants. The plant supplies front axles to Volvo and Mack, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, and General Motors (NYSE:GM) (Detroit, Michigan). This is the company's first commercial axle manufacturing plant in 19 years.

Nexxus Industrial Development Company (Monterrey, Mexico), was selected as the design-build firm to provide engineering and construction services for the plant.
