Automotive Parts Manufacturer Fast-Tracks New R&D Facility In Michigan

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources Incorporated, Houston, Texas). CME Automotive (American Mitsuba Corporation) of Mount Pleasant, Indiana, a U.S. subsidiary of Mitsuba Corporation (Kiryu, Japan), is awaiting final approval on a permit for the foundation of a new 40,000 square foot, $10 million R&D facility it will build in the Summit Place Industrial Park in Brighton, Michigan.

Anthony Pucci & Associates (Brighton, Michigan) is providing architectural services and construction services will be performed by Mike Corrigan Construction (Brighton, Michigan). CME expects to obtain a permit from the city to lay the foundation in the next several weeks. Bid documents are expected to go out within a month, if all goes as planned, and specialty subcontractors will be selected. Construction should begin shortly thereafter. Mitsuba expects to move into the new R&D facility, which will eventually employ 85 workers, in June 2004.

CME Automotive is also expanding its Monroeville, Indiana, operations (Plant 1061922). The company will construct a $3 million, 75,000 square foot distribution center adjacent to its existing manufacturing plant, and will also expand assembly operations at the plant with the addition of $2.5 million in new manufacturing equipment. The general contractor for that project is James S. Jackson Construction (Bluffton, Indiana). Construction of the new distribution center is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.

CME Automotive/American Mitsuba Corporation manufactures automotive components, such as front wiper systems, automotive cruise actuators, and seat motor systems for Honda, Nissan, Subaru, CAMI, and other automotive OEMs.
