Bison Windfarm Beginning Construction in North Dakota

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Minnesota Power (Duluth, Minnesota) is beginning construction on the company's first fully owned and operated windfarm in North Dakota.

The Bison I Wind Project is near Bismarck, North Dakota, and once completed, Phase I will consist of 16 Siemens SWT-101 wind turbines of 2.3 megawatts (MW) each and will have a nameplate of 37 MW. Phase I is scheduled to begin construction during the second quarter of 2010. There are two phases planned for the Bison Wind Project.

Siemens will supply the wind turbines and will erect and commission the turbines. Phase II will consist of 17 wind turbines. Phase II of the Bison Wind Project is expected to begin in 2011. Upon completion, the Bison Wind Project will consist of 33 Siemens SWT-101 wind turbines and produce 76 MW. This much renewable energy is expected to provide electricity to approximately 22,000 homes.
