Brazil's Cenibra to Perform Market Analysis for the Expansion of Belo Oriente Pulp Mill

The project seeks to increase the plant's manufacturing capacity of hardwood and softwood pulp from 1.14 million tons per year to 2.14 million tons per year. The plant expansion will involve equipment additions, replacements and upgrades. Feasibility studies are anticipated to be completed in October 2011. Civil works are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2013, and construction is scheduled to be completed during the first months of 2015.

Belo Oriente pulp mill, located in the city of Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais, Brazil), began operating in 1990 and employs 800 people. The mill manufactures kraft softwood pulp for the production of paper for printing and writing. At present, the plant is equipped with a 100-megawatt (MW) powerhouse that generates electricity for the mill's own consumption and and sells the remainder to Brazil's Central Interconnected System (SIC).
