Fulfillment center projects involving Ryan Companies that are on track for completion this year include Amazon's Project Cosmeaux, a 3.4 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Shreveport, Louisiana, that will let the company pick, pack and ship smaller items such as books, toys, electronics and other household items. More traditional manufacturing projects involving Ryan include a grassroot railcar manufacturing plant for Hitachi Rail STS (Genoa, Italy) in Hagerstown, Maryland. The facility is being developed to support Hitachi Rail's $2.2 billion contract with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) (Washington, D.C.) for railcars. The project, which kicked off late last year, involves constructing a 307,000-square-foot building that initially will allow Hitachi to manufacture 256 new 8000-series railcars for WMATA, then up to 20 railcars per month, ranging from metro to high-speed service cars for use throughout the country. In Lafayette, Colorado, Ryan is providing construction management services for Meditronic Incorporated's (Minneapolis) new research and development campus. The project entails constructing and equipping two five-story buildings, totaling approximately 400,000 square feet, to house the company's existing Colorado research centers as well as providing a regional headquarters location. The facility will be about 60% office space and 40% laboratory facilities for Meditronic's surgical, respiratory and gastrointestinal therapeutics groups, among others. Other pharma-biotech projects involving Ryan include Oxford Companies LLC's (Ann Arbor, Michigan) genomics research facility in Kansas City, Missouri.
