Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Vista Thermal Coal Mine project is experiencing a delay in obtaining final permits for a 6 million-ton-per-year bituminous surface coal mine in Hinton, Alberta, Canada.
The project, with a total investment value (TIV) of about $441 million, has received capital authorization. Final permits were expected last December. As a result, bidding documents that were expected to be released in April will instead be released in June. Construction is now scheduled to kick off in July with road construction, site grading and erection of water management structures. Rail siding construction is scheduled to begin during the third quarter. The project is scheduled to be operating in July 2015.
Coalspur Mines Limited (OTC:CSPZF) (Hinton, Alberta), is developing the Vista mine, which will include a 1,500 ton-per-hour coal preparation plant. Engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services are being provided by Forge Group North America (Canonsburg, Pennsylvania).
Forge Group North America, formerly Taggart Group, was acquired by Forge Group (Perth, Australia) in 2013. Forge Group suddenly went bankrupt earlier this year, costing 1,500 jobs and leaving shareholders in the lurch. Forge assets, including the North America division, are in the process of being liquidated, but as of now the company continues honor active contracts in North America.
