CenterPoint Energy Gas Transmission Company Plans to Construct a New Natural Gas Compressor Station in Louisiana

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--CenterPoint Energy Gas Transmission Company (CEGT) (Houston, Texas), a business unit of CenterPoint Energy Incorporated (NYSE:CNP) (Houston), is planning to construct a natural gas compressor station near the town of Alto, Louisiana, in Richland Parish, off of state route 135. The $29 million Alto compressor station is a part of a multiphase development program to increase the natural gas transmission capacity of CEGT's Line CP, which is the Carthage to Perryville line, from the existing 1.2 billion-cubic-feet-per-day (Bcf/d) capacity to 1.5 Bcf/d of natural gas.

The compressor station will be constructed on 76.5 acres of land in township 16N, range 6E, section 21. CEGT will install a Solar Mars T-100S turbine rated at 15,000 horsepower, packaged with a Solar C652 compressor unit, to supply the additional compression. Facilities to be constructed include the central compressor building, a control building, a condensate tank, a 237-horsepower standby generator, and supporting equipment and piping.

CEGT expects to begin construction on the Alto compressor station in May of 2010. At the peak of construction, a workforce of approximately 75 will be employed in bringing the facility online. CEGT expects to complete construction activities and have the Alto compressor station in-service by November 2010, in time for the winter demand season.
