China Datang Corporation Receives Approval for Shanxi Wind Power Projects

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Following the approval of the Hunyuan Lingyunkou Wind Power Project in February 2011, Datang Shanxi New Energy Company Limited's (Taiyuan, Shanxi) Yanjiacun Phase I Wind Power Project in Kelan County and the Zeqingling Phase I Wind Power Project in Hunyuan County received approval from Shanxi Development and Reform Commission (SDRC).

With the approval of these two wind power projects in Shanxi, Datang Shanxi New Energy has received approval for three wind power projects with a combined generating capacity of 148.5 megawatt (MW) this year.

The Yanjiacun Phase I Wind Power Project is located in Songjiagou Town in Kelan County, covering a total area of six hectares in six villages. The project will be furnished with 33 wind turbines, each with a generating capacity of 1.5 MW. The project requires a total investment of $75 million. The project received preliminary approval from SDRC in the first half of 2010. Zeqingling Phase I Wind Power Project will also be furnished with 33 wind turbines, each with generating capacities of 1.5 MW.

Upon completion, the two projects could supply 213.5 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy to the grid every year. Compared with conventional coal-fired power generation, the two projects could save 71,300 metric tons of coal each year, and reduce the emission of several atmospheric pollutants. In addition, the project could also save large quantity of fresh water.

In September 2010, China Datang Corporation signed the framework agreement regarding a further cooperation in the energy sector with the government of the Shanxi province. According to the agreement, China Datang will invest about $15 billion for the energy industry in Shanxi during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15). Datang Shanxi New Energy was established to promote China Datang's new energy development in Shanxi.
