China Power Shentou's Power Plant Expansion Project Passes Engineering Examination

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--China Power Shanxi Shentou Power Generation Company Limited's (Shuozhou, Shanxi) 2,000-megawatt (MW) expansion project cleared its latest hurdle with the approval of a preliminary engineering report, according to an announcement on May 6. Shanxi Electric Power Exploration & Design Institute (SXED) (Taiyuan, Shanxi), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), said it had prepared the report, which was approved by specialty teams in April.

The project is now ready to enter the implementation stage.

The China Power Shentou Power Plant, located in Pinglu District of Shuozhou City, is owned by China Power International Development Limited (02380.HK) (China Power) (Hong Kong), the listed flagship of China Power Investment Corporation (Beijing). The power plant currently has two 600-MW, supercritical, air-cooling, coal-fired units in operation.

The expansion project will include two 1,000-MW, ultra-supercritical, air-cooling, coal-fired units, using coal from the East Open-Pit Coal Mine in the Pingshuo District. The National Energy Administration approved preparation for the project, with a March 2013 kick-off. Invitations have been issued for bids to supply the main equipment, and for construction management.

Construction is scheduled to begin later this year, and both units are expected to begin operations in 2016.
