Shanxi, which is China's largest coal-producing province, plans to shut down all of its coal mines with production capacities of less than 600,000 metric tons per year by the end of 2020, according to a statement from the provincial government.
Shanxi has 954 operational coal mines with a total output of 971 million metric tons. The number of operational coal mines will be cut to less than 900 by the end of 2020, according to officials, and the output of large-scale coal mines will account for more than 76% of the total. Meanwhile, more than 50 smart mining units will be built in the province by the end of 2022.
