Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Nissan North America Incorporated (Franklin, Tennessee), the North American division of Nissan Motor Company Limited (PINK:NSANY) (Yokohama, Japan), has begun construction on a $225 million lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant in Smyrna, Tennessee. The plant will be constructed in phases.
As part of a $1 billion phased investment, construction on the 450,000-square-foot plant on the company's existing site started with groundbreaking ceremonies in June. Building construction began in September, and overall completion of Phase I is scheduled for the summer of 2011. WG Yates & Sons Construction Company (Jackson, Mississippi) was selected to provide general construction services and Edwards Electric (Madison, Mississippi) will provide electrical services for the new battery plant. Albert Kahn Associates Incorporated (Detroit, Michigan) provided architectural design services.
