Contracts Awarded for ABB Cable Manufacturing Plant in North Carolina

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--ABB Limited (NYSE:ABB) (Zurich, Switzerland) has awarded engineering and construction contracts for a $90 million high-voltage cable manufacturing plant to be constructed in Huntersville, North Carolina.

Professional Engineering Associates Incorporated (Troy, Michingan) was selected as the lead engineering firm to perform design work for the new plant, while Keith Architects Incorporated (Greenville, South Carolina) was selected to provide architectural designs for the new plant. Yeargin Potter Shackelford Construction Company (Greenville) will provide general construction services for the new plant.

Site preparation is currently under way and involves the construction of a 160,000-square-foot building on a 22-acre site and construction of a 450-foot extrusion tower, with the installation of production and supporting equipment. The new plant will allow the company to manufacture high-voltage and extra-high-voltage cables for use in AC and DC applications. Approximately 100 new jobs will be created. Completion of the new plant is expected by the second half of 2012.
