Dammam 7 Petrochemicals Adds East and West to Planned Complex

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Dammam 7 Petrochemicals Limited (Ad Dammam, Saudi Arabia) is constructing a $1 billion acrylics complex in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Dammam selected Aker Kvaerner (OSE:AKVR) (Oslo, Norway) to serve as engineer back in early 2010, and Aker is utilizing its office in Zoetermeer, Netherlands, to assist with the engineering needs.

Dammam also recently partnered with Shanghai Huayi Group Company (Shanghai, China) as investment partner. Shanghai Huayi will provide the process technology for the 400,000-metric-ton-per-year acrylic acid unit and the 400,000-metric-ton-per-year acrylates unit. Shanghai Huayi is a diversified company with products in rubbers and plastics; fine chemicals such as marine coatings and pigments; methyl and butyl acrylates; and acrylic acid. Shanghai Huayi is also expanding into the production of bio-pharmaceuticals and bio-chemicals.

The 200,000-metric-ton-per-year butanol unit will be fitted with Davy Process Technology Limited's (London, England) LP Oxo technology. Davy Process is a subsidiary of Johnson Matthey plc (LSE:JMAT) (London).

Dammam hopes to select and finalize the engineering, procurement and construction contractor in January 2011, and construction on the complex is expected to begin during the late spring of 2011, if all goes as planned. Dammam is aiming for the second half of 2014 for production to begin.
